Development Projects at
Jhamtse Gatsal

he following is a list of priorities and projects underway at Jhamtse Gatsal. We will share the planning process and specifics about these projects with you as they develop by updating this page. We are also delighted to hear from you!

September 2010: Bathhouse Delays

A sturdy, passively-heated bath and laundry building is being built on the slope of Jhamtse Gatsal. The photos below show progress on this important project. However, there have also been some hiccups in the bathhouse construction. One of the major problems with the construction, delay, and costs of the bath facility is the lack of "professional builders." Lobsang reported that the building manager, from Assam, came with promises but then picked up a number of jobs in the Tawang region and began to rotate his crews among them. He then disappeared, leaving a lot of clients with partially finished projects. This not-unfamiliar problem will need to be solved.

Other needs, described by Dr. Frank James, who did a health assessment of the children and staff.
